Another lazy day today, but I think that they'll probably all be like this for the next 2 months!
I woke up with Kayla, who had class at 8:30, then went on the Internet while she was out. We just stayed in the apartment when she got back and I went to sleep again, yeah! She had another class downtown at 7:45, but we went downtown a bit early and got something to eat at Portillos. My God, that place serves good food; no wonder she likes it so much. After dropping off Kayla off at class I went to the Water Tower Place shopping mall, but not long after being the I got a phone call because her class was cancelled. I met her in the lobby and we went shopping for a while, which was so much fun. We took the El back to the apartment at about 9:30 and watched Superbad in bed when we got back. Great film, loved it!
Ah, this is the life. Seriously.

2nd December 2009
Was tired and hungover from an amazing prior evening so didn't do too much... Woke up and shared stories regarding the previous evening's antics with Kayla (she didn't remember much; way too drunk). We stayed around the apartment until she had to go to class when we caught the El and went downtown to Chicago. After saying goodbye to Kayla I walked down Michigan Avenue to try and find some shops for presents and thermals, but my heart wasn't in it and before long I was headed back to catch a train to the apartment. I stopped off at Dominicks and picked up some extra ingredients to make Minestrone soup, mmmmmm. Kayla really loved it, but after I was so tired that I feel asleep on the futon while she was doing work. The day ended with an early night, around 11; must have still been adjusting to the time difference.
Starting to feel like I know my way around; it's nice.

1st December 2009
First full day in Chicago...
Kayla had class in the morning so I woke up with her and after saying our goodbyes I spent the time while she was out on the Internet (starting a blog amongst other things). She came back to the apartment after her class, but had to go to another shortly after. While she was at her second class I got ready and met her at Halas once she was done (I was astounded at the number of North Face fleeces I saw whilst walking through the campus).
We went and got a whole load of chores done after class: I got a cheap-o phone, a month CTA pass, keys cuts, some groceries from Dominicks and - most importantly - some rum and coke so we could pre-game for the Friendly Fires and xx show.
I made some delicious pepper and tomato spaghetti after getting back to the apartment and once we had eaten that we start pre-gaming, oh yeah. We headed out at about 7, got the El and I started to realise that I was feeling rather tipsy and we still had a water bottle of booze to finish off on the train! We got to the Bottom Lounge just before 8.
When we got inside the venue we pretty much spotted the xx sitting in the bar right away, so like crazy little obsessives we went over to talk with them. Ollie remembered me from London, which was rather good. I apologised for being so drunk at Village Underground, which was rather ironic given how much I had to drink this night too.
We got a picture each.
Both bands were excellent. Can't remember much about both sets, but Kayla and I were definitely dancing our socks off to Friendly Fires. There was also a scuffle in front of us between two girls, which is always exciting, and I befriended a chap in front of us after his friend got chucked out for underage drinking.
After the show we went back to the bar and met Ed from Friendly Fires and then went out to the xx tour bus. We starting talking to an English guy and American girl by the bus too. Kayla managed to get their attention enough (most prominently by tapping on the tour bus window with a license plate she found in the street) for Ollie to come out and talk to her and promise to get her on the guest list for the jj or Hot Chip show.
The night finished with us getting the El to MacDonalds, where I started to feel very ill so we took a cab back to Kayla's apartment. I slumped in the bed and went to sleep straight away; Kayla was busy messaging Ollie on Facebook. FAIL.
Amazing night. Seriously.

30th November 2009
Got up at 6:15 and was way tired, but I had a cab booked for 7:15 and a plane to catch, so no opportunity to make an excuse and go back to sleep. Got ready and packed the last few things and was finally ready to go.
The cab driver smelt a bit - most prominently of stale cigarettes - and I had to put up with this for the entire journey. The traffic was awful and I was extremely worried that I was going to miss my plane, especially as my phone had died and I had no way of contacting anyone. But, after trying every back-route possible, we finally made it to Heathrow terminal 5, 1 hour, 30 minutes early. Phew!
There were no seats with extra legroom on the plane, which was annoying, but I was so glad I made it that I didn't really mind. I went down to gate and the first sign that I was visiting America was there: a girl in a black North Face fleece; how original. We got on to the plane and the journey was uneventful apart from a little bit of turbulence. The film choice was awful so I ended up watching documentaries on the Berlin Wall and a trek across Antarctica amongst others to pass the time. The flight went quickly and before I knew it we were touching down in Chicago, 8 hours 20 minutes after leaving London.
I got through security without any issues, collected my bag and walked through the exit as I had done on 1st October; Kayla was standing in the same spot and I ran up to meet her. We hugged and kissed for a while and I realised how good it was to be back. We jumped in a taxi and $40 later we pulled up in West Albion Avenue.
We spent a couple of hours in Kayla's room before heading out and getting some food from Chipotle. Everything was still so familiar - it was nice - and after a burrito and some chips we went back to the apartment. I was so tired by this point that we only stayed up another couple of hours. I was dozing a bit, talkig half-asleep crap and Kayla had started putting my clothes away because she's nice like that! We went to bed at 9:30 and that was my first day back in Chi.
I hope these get more interesting as the days go by...
